About

I’m Shirley, and I’m the creator of Home Kitchen Talk, your go-to resource for home cooking tips and tricks and the best in kitchen tools for the home cook and how to use them.

In my family, cooking and eating meals together is how we show our love. My experience in the kitchen started when I was pretty young, probably around the age of 10. Though it started as more of a chore, helping my mom and grandma chop onions, peel potatoes, grate cheese, stuff pasta shells, wash cilantro (you get the idea), there’s no doubt that cooking has grown into a passionate hobby for me.

Many people might view cooking as work, but for me, making dinner with a glass of wine at the end of a long work day is my favorite way to unwind. It’s a truly mindful activity for me and gets me out of any stressful headspace.

My favorite cuisines are Mexican, Chinese, Indian, and Italian, and I have a special place in my heart for almost any kind of soup. Soup always makes everything better!

But as an avid home cook, I’m always up for the challenge of dabbling in new cuisines, and experimenting with new cooking methods and kitchen tools (or kitchen toys, as I like to say). My favorite kitchen device right now is my sous vide cooker, or as the seasoned users call it, sous vide immersion circulator. These things are just brilliant! They’re perfect for beginner or advanced home cooks, and there are so many scrumptious dishes that you can make with one!

Hopefully in my blog you’ll see just how big my curiosity and love for cooking is. My goal is to share what I’ve learned from years experimenting in my kitchen, and I hope that it inspires you to get adventurous in yours!
